Lagrant's Northern Bred Queens

Due to the whims of Mother Nature, it is difficult to predict when queens will be available in the spring, and the number we will have to offer throughout the growing season.

Before you place your order, please contact us with your needs to determine availability or to be placed on our waiting list.

Once you have received confirmation of availability, you may use the PayPal button below to purchase your queens.

If you do not have a PayPal account, we also accept payment by cash, check or money order. You'll also save $5 service fee per queen.

To help your colony's acceptance of our queen, we do not mark queens. With a little practice, you'll be able to spot your queen easily without any man-made assistance. 

Introducing Your Queen

To introduce a new caged queen, it is suggested:

1. Remove the cork from the candy end of the cage.
2. Drill a hole in the candy the size of a frame nail. Do not enlarge the hole.
3. Remove two outer frames from the super with the most bees.
4. Locate the middle of the bee cluster and spread the adjacent frames apart.
5. Place the cage between the frames. The screen should face towards the front or back of the hive rather than towards the comb.
6. Replace the outer two frames (which will squeeze the cage into the comb and hold it in place).
7. Reassemble the hive.
8. Do not disturb the colony for two weeks.

Please remember that a new queen will not be accepted if the colony has:

• An existing queen
• A ripe queen cell
• A laying worker

A thorough inspection of your colony before  you introduce your queen will help ensure her sucessful acceptance.
